Soil profiles on both sides of a fenced railroad were compared between Bayan soum , Tov aimag and Bayantal Soum, Govisumber aimag which are separated by 40km of track. The physical analysis showed the areas next to the railway line to be different from the areas outside the fence. The areas inside the fence had average 12-16 cm deep and were of normal density whereas the areas outside the fence had an average 3-7cm deep and were 2.41 more dense than inside the fence. The study thus showed that the area outside the fence appears to be degraded.
